Shogakukan’s Monthy Sunday GX magazine’s twitter account revealed some hot news on Friday, that Black Lagoon manga would be coming back. The manga by Rei Hiroe will resume in the June issue of the same magazine, on coming May 19. A preview image for the manga was also revealed on the Twitter post.
Monthly Sunday GX had revealed during last December that the manga would resume this spring. Rei Hiroe’s manga has been on hiatus since the first quarter of 2014.
The Black Lagoon action manga tells the story of a four-man team of mercenaries who operate in Southeast Asia, smuggling goods with their World War II PT boat and performing odd jobs that often involve and end up in shootouts. Hiroe launched the manga in Shogakukan’s Sunday GX magazine in 2002. Shogakukan published the manga’s 10th volume in May 2014. Viz Media publishes the manga in North America, and it released the 10th volume in April 2015.
Madhouse adapted the manga into two television anime series in 2006, and the Black Lagoon: Roberta’s Blood Trail OVA in 2010. Geneon released both series on DVD in North America in 2007-2008, and Funimation re-released the series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in 2012, and again in 2015.
Hiroe most recently worked as the original concept designer and original character designer for the Re:CREATORS television anime series, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video in Japan late at night on April 7, and then premieres on TV in Japan on Saturday. Amazon Prime Video’s Anime Strike service in the United States is also streaming the series.
