Story: 8.8/10

The story of Your Lie in Aprin is fantastic. It’s not often you find such a depth of story in a romance anime. No offense but even many good romance anime tend to be character oriented unlike this one. May be that’s why it makes this anime so unique. Instead of solely focusing on the two main characters, the story gave all the characters some depth. which then added more to the story itself. The story did progress slow at time but that was justified by the development and depth it added. It was not prolonging meaninglessly.

Character: 8.5/10

Your Lie in April had a great bunch of characters. The two lead characters Kosei and Kaori have shown fantastic character development throughout the course of the series. Their chemistry was excellent. I would go as far as saying they are my favorite pairs alongside Inuyasha and Kagome. Watari and Tsubaki were also influential roles in the series as close friends of Kosei. Two more notable characters of this show are Takeshi and Emi. They played a fantastic role as Kosei’s rivals and contributed heavily to the development and progression of the story.

Animation and Art: 8.8/10

The animation and visuals for Your Lie in April was a bit different from the usual type of animation that we are used to. It took a little time to get used to but it was absolutely stunning. Amazingly bright colors filled the happy scenes and then at one point dark colors depicted the sad scenes. thus each scene made to stand out. It really was like a piano concert. it was like seeing the notes of a music piece taking visual appearance. It was beautiful.

Music: 9/10

The music in this anime is absolutely brilliant. Both the ending themes were great. The background scores were perfect and matched very well with the scenes. Kudos to Masaru Yokoyama for a job well done. I have mixed feelings towards the first opening theme “Hikaru Nara” by Goose House. The composition was great. Judging from a musical point of view it was absolutely brilliant. I sang along every time and enjoyed it a lot. But it contained way too many spoilers. Other than that some of my favorite original sound tracks are “Ikanaide”, “Uso to Hontou” and “Friend A”. Try them out. They are very beautiful and relaxing.

Final Thoughts

Your Lie In April is probably one of the finest romance anime out there which can only be rivaled by the likes of Bakuman or Nana. Despite putting most of its focus on the music it has some tremendous emotional moments. If you are looking for a good romance or even good tear jerking anime, I would definitely recommend this anime to you. So just buy a ticket and get on the “Feelz” train because Your Lie In April is going to take you on a memorable journey.
