Every since we were kids, we have been fans of anime and it has been a hug part of lives. One of the most important factors that sets the very first impressions for an anime is the opening theme of the anime. A bad opening for an anime can affect the impression of it also can be painful to sit through if you can’t skip it. But among that there are a few anime opening themes that you just don’t want to skip. Every time these opening themes come on, you cannot but help singing to it. You just jump up and sing a long with it. Some of these opening themes have become such icons that they have become a part of our everyday lives. Every anime fan has these tracks on their playlist or music listening devices. Today Senpai is going to talk about some of his favorite anime opening themes.
- These are personal opinions.
- If you don’t agree, it’s Okay! Let us know what your favorite opening themes are.
So, without further ado, let us get into Senpai’s top 15 favorite anime opening themes:
15. Closer (Naruto Shippuden)
Closer by Inoue Joe is number 15 on Senpai’s favorite anime opening themes list. among all the 20+ opening of the Naruto Shippuden series, this song appealed to me so much. I sing along every time I listen to this song. This song stands out with its amazing lyrics and awesome bass line. Its a really great rock song and the visuals accompanying this song is amazing. The song starts off with a shot from the back of Naruto and his friends in a field of red flowers and one by one they start turning their head with Shikamaru leading the pack. This was aired after when Asuma died fighting Hidan from the Akatsuki and this opening track is reflection of the pain and loss of Ino-Shika-Chou. Coz really, ‘The closer you get to something, the harder it is to see it’ and we should never take it for granted. *Senpai has gone off into the village hidden in the feelz*
14. Hikaru Nara (Shigatsu Wa Kimi No Uso)
On number 14 is Hikaru Nara by Goose House from the anime, Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso/Your Lie in April. This track is not only a great track for the show but also an amazing standalone song. I have been following the work of Goose House for quite a while and when i found out they used this song as the opening I was so thrilled. The opening accompanies a flurry of upbeat and fun moments of the characters in the show and you cannot but jump up and sing along to the song. But aside from all the fun, this song also brings back a flurry of feelz as you remember the ending of the anime. (T_T) *Still in the village hidden in the feelz* Lol! Because of all these emotions and that are associated with the song, I have included it in my top 15 favorite anime opening themes list.
13. Rose (Nana)
This song has a lot of sentimental value to me. I am a very big fan of the anime Nana and this song takes me back to those times. This song by ANNA inspi’ has a great mixture of that heavy rock and roll guitars and drums and the voice line is absolutely amazing. Rose is undoubtedly one of the best rock music used for an anime opening. The composition is superb and lyrics are great. You cannot but be in awe with this song. It is still one of my favorite Japanese songs till date.
12. Red Fraction (Black Lagoon)
A blast from the past! Red Fraction by Mell is an amazing opening song used in an amazing anime. This song is heavy and badass just like the main protagonist of the show, Revy! No other song suits Revy’s personality or the masterpiece that is this anime more perfectly. It gives off that metal vibe. The composition couldn’t have been any better. I love this song so much and it’s still in my playlist. This is why I have included this song in my top favorite anime opening themes list.
11. Uninstall (Bokurano)
Bokurano is a VERY underrated anime. When I watched this anime I was SO affected by it that every time I remember it, it gives me the chills! It’s a very tragic anime with a dark theme. The opening track Uninstall by Chiaki Ishikawa is just as ominous and it gives you the chills every time that vocal solo comes on in the beginning of the song. This song also has a sentimental value to me as it always brings me to tears. This is why it has made a way into my top favorite anime opening themes.
10. Rock The Dragon (Dragon Ball Z)
Another blast from the past! Ah, the nostalgia I used to love this song when I used to be a kid. It does not have much lyrics to it except ‘Rock the Dragon’ but the heavy guitar and drums make up for it. I was a huge part of my childhood and even now when I hear it go full on Super Sayajin and ctrat singing with it.
9. Blaze (Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle)
Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, even though failed in a good anime adaptation of the amazing manga, did a terrific job in music sector and Blaze is a prime example of it. It’s a really catchy song by Kinya and I got really hooked on to the song. I still listen to it every now and then and absolutely love it! So, much so that it has made into my top favorite anime opening themes list.
8. Unravel (Tokyo Ghoul)
You knew this was coming, didn’t you? No top anime opening list is complete without this song! Tokyo Ghoul, no matter how controversial the anime was, it has undoubtedly given us one of the best anime opening themes of modern times. This amazing performance by TK was truly commendable hard rock performance. You cannot but go ‘Oshiete Oshiete o’ when this song comes up!
7. Brave Shine (Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Bladeworks)
Another great track from a new anime. This amazing song by Aimer added a different level of depth to the newest installment in the Fate Series. The song comprises of a great composition and amazing lyrics. I have been a fan of Aimer for a while now and when Unlimited Bladeworks added this track as opening theme I immediately fell in love with the anime and it’s obvious why it has made it into my top favorite anime opening themes list.
6. The World (Death Note)
I’m sure this is no surprise to you! This is an iconic song from an iconic anime and a mind blowing performance by Nightmare. This is song is a part of our childhoods. Whenever you hear this song, you know shit’s about to go down. What made this song even more epic was the visuals that came along with it. The Godly depictions of Light Yagami as visuals for the song added another dimension to this already epic song. Honestly, all they opening themes of Death Note were iconic and amazing but this being the first opening of the anime takes the crown in terms of sentimental value. This anime was the anime that got me into Japanese music and this song has a big role to play in it. That’s why it is in my top favorite anime opening themes list.
5. Colors (Code Geass)
Is this really a surprise? No! Whenever you hear ‘Jibun wo Sekai sae mo’ you know your master Lelouch Vi Vritannia is here and you must obey his commands to sing along! Really, Colors by FLOW is another iconic song from an iconic anime and a big part of our childhoods! Not much to say about this song other than its amazing as hell. FLOW never seems to disappoint you with their music as MANY of their music has been used in many iconic anime franchises.
4. Butter-Fly (Digimon)
Yes, this is a personal favorite. When I was growing up I loved Digimon. But unlike most of you, I saw he Japanese version and this was the 1st opening song. It easily became a part of my childhood as I got up on my feet and sang along with the tune with my little to zero understanding of Japanese at that time. But that didn’t stop me from grooving to this amazing song by Koji Wada. But with the new reboot of the song in the new Digimon Tri series all the nostalgia came back along with my childhood friends and made it into my top favorite anime opening themes list. For this song I’ll link both the old and the new version of it.
3. Again (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)
Need I say much about this track? Almost every single anime fan knows about beautiful track by YUI. Being a big fan of her since I heard her song Rolling Star from Bleach, I was so excited when they included her song Again as the first opening of one the best anime of all time, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Not only is this song amazing as hell, it is PERFECT for the anime and the accompanying visuals go so well with the song! Not much explanation needed as to why it made it in my top favorite anime opening themes list.
2. Dogfight (Initial D)
Are you a fan of M.O.V.E ? If you are not then this song will definitely make you a fan. Initial D probably has the best of set of song among all the anime out there. Here is a piece of advice don’t listen to this song when you are driving otherwise you run the risk of exceeding speed limit .
