Kamisama Hajimemashita follows Nanami Momozono who is left all alone when her dad escapes to evade gambling debts. The debt collector ends up kicking her out of her house. A homeless Nanami was sitting on a bench when she sees a man on a tree brunch trying to escape from a dog. Out of kindness Nanami helps that man. Little did she know her fortune was about to go through a massive change.
The story in Kamisama Hajimemashita was great to start with. It has a pretty stereotype setup. However, such simple and stereotype setting was able to keep me watching this show. The way this show showcased how a homeless girl tries to adapt to the new responsibilities she is granted and her relationship with other characters of the shrine is truly commendable. They also did an excellent job in adding the rare suspense and frequent humor. Unfortunately, this quality was only there for the first season. The show failed to maintain the same level in the next two seasons. While it is not something drastic but significant enough to change my view of the show.
The show has a decent set of character. However, they are way too clichéd. Nanami is the main character. She is the typical noble protagonist you see who no matter what happens will end up forgiving you and going to care for you. Tomoe was a far more enjoyable character compared to Nanami. He has a dark past, he is hard working, sincere, devoted and not to mention completely dishonest about his feelings. Mizuki is also a really good supporting character. Mikage should have had more screen time in my opinion. Despite these decent characteristics, the reason these character gets a 7.5 is that they have shown zero development throughout the course of the series.
Here are some notable characters from the anime:
The visuals are okay. Nothing to complain about. However, the colors seemed a bit hazy and probably using darker tones would have made the art style more appealing. Being a romance anime the show totally ignored the action side. The fight scenes seemed absolutely silly to me.

The soundtracks used in Kamisama Hajimemashita were really nice. I liked all of the soundtracks specially from the first season. Both the opening and the ending themes of the first season were really good. Also the soundtrack from when Nanami does the Kagura dance is just so amazing!
Kamisama Hajimemashita is really good till the 1st season, something most people would find appealing. However, if you don’t have a decent tolerance level or have no problem with boredom you will not enjoy the show from season 2. It gets boring by the middle of the second season and has a hard time from there to regain the excitement.
The show would have easily gotten an 8.5+ if it wasn’t for the drop of quality. I more or less liked the anime and I believe if you are a sucker for romance anime this is definitely an anime worth giving a shot. Kamisama Hajimemashita is a pretty good shoujo/romance anime.
