Plot
The story of Gekkan Shojo Nozaki Kun follows Chiyo Sakura, a high school student, who has a crush on Umetarou Noazki who apparently is a shoujo manga artist/writer. One day Sakura tries to confess to Nozaki but he misunderstands and gives her an autograph thinking that she is a fan of his. After that by some strange turn of events Sakura agrees to help Nozaki with his manga as an assistant. The story of the anime continues from that point.

Story: 7.5/10
The story is nothing deep but really nice in my opinion. The constant turns of events were a pleasant and kept me engaged throughout the show. It’s difficult to find a romantic comedy with surprise elements like the one Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki Kun had. It was not confined in the barriers of typical romantic comedy. The thing I liked most is not the depth of the plot but actually how well a very simple story has been executed without trying to complicate things. That in my opinion is one of the key selling points of the show.

Animation and Art: 8/10
The art and animation of this show was quite good. Vibrant colours and clear drawings were pleasing to the eye and perfect for a romantic comedy show. Nothing to complain. Dogakobo did a good work.

Music: 7.5/10
If characters are the strongest point of Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki Kun, then the soundtracks and music are the weakest. I am not saying it is bad but compared to the lofty standards of the other departments the soundtracks were rather on the downside.

Enjoyment: 8.5/10
This is a highly entertaining anime apart from one drawback. I think Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki Kun lacked romance. It would have been more satisfying to see some reaction from Nozaki. He is way too dense. But the comedy almost made up for it. I have not laughed this much in a while. It is easily one of the funniest shows out there. You get to see all sorts of zones in Gekkan Shoujo starting from fan zone to friend zone, assistant zone, cycle zone, model zone, umbrella zone in the end even fireworks zone. It will let you down in romance department but it is an absolute gem in terms of comedy and that is where this show truly shines. I absolutely loved this show.

Final Thoughts
Gekkan Shoujo is basically a comedy anime with hints of romance here and there. So if you want a lovey-dovey anime, then this is not an anime for you. But if you want to watch an easy going anime and laugh your ass off while you’re at it, then Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki Kun is exactly what you are looking for.
