Genre: Drama, Music, School
Studio: Kyoto Animation
Plot: This is the second light novel of the Hibike! Euphonium series. The story of second volume focuses on Mizore Yoroizuka, the band’s only oboe player, and Nozomi Kasaki, an ex-member who wishes to rejoin the band after she seeing the band’s performance in the competition. However, Asuka refuses to let Nozomi back in the band for unknown reasons. Kumiko, who gets wind of this, begins to investigate.
Impression: The second season of Hibike Euphonium is one of those shows I was really looking forward to this season. And up until now it has been really decent. The show starts exactly where it left off. By exactly I meant the exact place. The visuals are top notch as you would expect from KyoAni. The characters are the same more or less. However, we are getting better insights on these characters. Asuka Senpai is showing her rather serious side compared to the jolly minded nature we were used to seeing. Reina also seems more vulnerable compared to her cold hearted self in the previous season. We really discovered a lot in the initial few episodes. Be it details about the incident regarding second years or Taki sensei’s past. But one thing that is really bugging me despite all the good stuffs is that the show is gradually starting to go overboard with the drama. The prime reason I liked this show was the music. However, this season it seems like Taki Sensei and the concert band’s secrets are getting priorities instead of the actual music. Well, it is still in its early days so obviously they can make amends. Let’s see how the rest of the season pans out.
